Happy Thanksgiving!
November 23, 2020Your electrical panel was built to handle the needs of your house at the time it was built. If your home is older and your electrical panel has never been upgraded, chances are it’s time for an upgrade. But how do you know? The following are a few tips to help you understand when it might be time to upgrade your electrical panel.
- Your electrical panel contains fuses instead of breakers – circuit breakers are safer and some insurance companies won’t insure a house without them.
- Your electrical panel does contain circuit breakers but you find yourself resetting them a couple of times a week or in a day instead of per year.
- You smell a bitter odor or see evidence of electrical fire in your panel.
These are just three pieces of evidence that it might be time to upgrade your panel. The best thing to do if you are experiencing any of these issues is to call a licensed electrician. Never try to upgrade your panel yourself. There are many risk factors involved with changing out an electrical panel and only a licensed electrician should ever do so.
