March 15, 2020There’s more than one way to spiff up the outside of your home. You could add some cool landscaping, build a deck, or add a swimming pool. All these things will greatly enhance the pleasure of spending time in your yard on warm summer evenings along with a few guests. But there’s one thing that can add ambiance to your evenings outside that you may not have thought of…outdoor lighting. That’s right, outdoor lighting can contribute a great deal to your overall enjoyment of your backyard. Without the right lighting, outdoor entertaining can be less satisfying.
Following are some things to consider when it comes to outdoor lighting and why you may want to call someone who is licensed as well as experienced to install your outdoor lights.
1.) Is your electrical service to the outside up to code? You should have a tamper resistant GFCI outlet for plugging things in.
2.) Is there enough space in your electrical box to accommodate more electrical fixtures, or do you need to upgrade?
2.) What kind of lighting do you want to use? LED lights are energy efficient and a good choice, plus the bulbs last longer and don’t get hot.
3.) Where to put the lighting: walkway lights, wall lights, string lights hanging overhead, lamp post lighting, hanging lights and the list goes on.
4.) What is your DIY expertise or should you hire someone to install outdoor lighting for you. Hiring a licensed and insured electrician is a wise move when it comes to dealing with any part of your electrical system, especially if you want it done right.
