January 11, 2020Are you planning to build a new home or maybe add on to your existing home this year? Following are a few things you should consider when planning out your electrical service for the new space.
.) Hire a licensed and insured electrician. (If you’re in the Medford, Massachusetts area, Peter Needham is your guy!) and make sure he or she has the necessary experience to do things properly. A license is one thing but experience is another. Check references and ask questions before hiring anyone.
.) Decide what types of light fixtures, ceiling fans, light switches, etc., that you want for your space. Discuss the fixtures with your electrician before you buy them. Your electrician can be a wealth of knowledge when it comes to purchasing the right fixtures. Take advantage of that knowledge before you buy.
.) Make sure your existing electrical box can handle the load. If you’re adding on to your home, your current box may need to be upgraded to handle the larger load depending upon what types of services will be added. If your current box is maxed out and there are no more spaces to add more circuit breakers, you’re going to need to upgrade. Again, only a licensed and insured electrician should tackle this task.
.) Make sure you plan ahead financially for any electrical project. Hiring a professional electrician isn’t cheap but it is worth the price to have it done right and to keep your family safe.
